释义	八通關古道 bā tōng guān gǔ dào清光绪元年西元1875总兵吴光亮率领粤军三营，开辟横贯台湾中央山脉的北、中、南三路。西自南投竹山、社寮分别开凿，二路线至新寮合而为一，东经凤凤山麓，由和社、东埔进入八通关，抵大水窟后，翻越中央山脉脊岭，循乐乐溪北岸东下，至花莲玉里，全程约一百五十三公里，路宽约二公尺。同年十二月完工。由于八通关古道深具台湾开发的历史意义，内政部于是在民国七十六年四月十七日指定为台闽地区第一级古迹。清人文献中称为「中路」。
