释义	室韋 shì wéi古族名。一译失韦。北魏时始见于史书记载，有五部，分布于嫩江及黑龙江南北岸地区。唐代包括二十部，其中居住在额尔古纳河一带的蒙兀室韦是蒙古部的祖先。各部发展不平衡。部落由千户或几千户组成，首领号莫贺咄。自北朝以来，与中原地区关系密切，后曾服属突厥。契丹在建立辽国的过程中，室韦的一部分被合并入辽。参阅《北史．室韦传》、《旧唐书．室韦传》及《文献通考》卷三四七。室韦
