practice medicine/pharmacy in order to help the people/public；practise medicine to help the people悬壶繁体懸壺濟世《后汉书·费长房传》：“费长房者，汝南人也。曾为市掾。市中有老翁卖药，悬一壶于肆头，及市罢，辄跳入壶中。市人莫之见，唯长房于楼上睹之，异焉，因往再拜……遂能医疗众病。”解释： “悬壶济世”指行医卖药，救助世人。清·潘耒《题张燕三像》：“楚天放鹤高人事，燕市悬壶济世心。傥遇小龙求疗疾，神方还与乞千金。”
