《三國志．吳志．孫休傳》丹陽太守李衡裴松之注引晉習鑿齒《襄陽記》:﹝李衡﹞於武陵龍陽泛洲上作宅，種甘橘千株。臨死，敕兒曰:'汝母惡我治家，故窮如是。然吾州里有千頭木奴，不責汝衣食，歲上一匹絹，亦可足用耳……吳末，衡甘橘成，歲得絹數千匹，家道殷足。'後因稱柑橘樹爲木奴。指柑橘的果實。泛稱果樹和其它具有經濟價值的樹木。柯樹的別名。見明李時珍《本草綱目·木二·柯樹》。
方同楚客憐皇樹，不學荊州利木奴。
