1946年12月24日晚，北平今北京發生女學生沈崇被美國士兵姦污的事件，激起了中國人民的憤怒。在中國共產黨領導下，全國掀起了抗議美軍暴行的羣衆運動。各大中城市參加抗議活動的學生達幾十萬人，各民主黨派也相繼發表聲明，要求美軍立即撤出中國。從而形成了國民黨統治區人民反對蔣介石賣國獨裁政策的新高潮。
